Bayanin Samfura
Spirulina yawanci yana nufin nau'ikan cyanobacteria guda biyu na jinsin Arthrospira genus Arthrospira maxima (sunan kimiyya Arthrospira maxima) da Arthrospira platensis (sunan kimiyya). Wadannan nau'o'in guda biyu an rarraba su a cikin jinsin Spirulina (sunan kimiyya Spirulina) kuma daga baya zuwa cikin jinsin Arthrospira, amma har yanzu ana kiran su "spirulina". Spirulina ana noma ko'ina kuma ana amfani dashi azaman kari na abinci a duk duniya, yawanci a cikin nau'ikan kwayoyi, allunan, da foda.
